Gynaecological check-up
Most of the time it is the gynaecological check-up that leads patients to the gynaecologist. After a detailed discussion, a cell smear (PAP test)is taken from the cervix (precaution carcinoma of the uterus). If the smear turns out to be conspicuous, the mucous membrane of the cervix will be examined with a coloscope to identify possible changes. The condition of the vaginal fluid, or rather vaginal flora, is examined under the microscope. Possible milieu disorders, bacterial infections or vaginal yeast infections can be detected using this method. The shape and size of the uterus can be assessed by palpation. The ultrasound examination shows the appearance and possible changes of the organs in the small pelvis (uterus, uterine tube, ovaries, urinary bladder). Finally, a palpation of the breast is carried out (precaution breast cancer, more information on the Austrian Breast Cancer Early Detection Programme can be found here )
